News from Autism Berkshire

Autism Berkshire is running more free workshops for parents and carers of teenagers and children with autism living in West Berkshire this autumn and early next year.

Two workshops led by Dr Fiona Knott, a clinical psychologist from the Centre for Autism at the University of Reading, will look at a range of issues to help parents support teenage children.

Social skills, relationships and communication will be covered in one session, while the other will focus on mental health.

The workshops, at West Berkshire District Council’s Central Family Hub in Thatcham, will take place in the evening to encourage attendance by parents who have work commitments during the day.

They are as follows:

Supporting Teenagers with Autism – Social Skills, Relationships and Communication

Wednesday, October 11, at the West Berkshire Council Central Family Hub. 7pm to 9.30pm.

Supporting Teenagers with Autism – Mental Health

Wednesday, November 8, at the West Berkshire Council Central Family Hub. 7pm to 9.30pm.

We are also running more free Pre-Assessment Workshops, for parents and carers with children (aged 5+) on the Berkshire CAMHS waiting list for an autism assessment, taking place in both Thatcham and Hungerford.

They are as follows:

Thatcham: 2017: Wednesday, September 13; Monday, November 6; Wednesday, December 13. 2018: Monday, February 5. All at the Central Family Wellbeing Hub from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Hungerford: 2017: Wednesday, October 18. 2018: Wednesday, January 10; Wednesday, March 7. All at the Croft Hall from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
